The Last Young Renegade map is scripted, has 31 parts, will be in pmv style, and is set to the song Last Young Renegade by All Time Low. The script follows the story of the octoling character played in Splatoon 2: Octo expansion.

What is a MAP?

• MAP is an acronym that stands for Multi Animator Project, it’s been used by the animation community for nearly a decade and can also be known as a MAProject. Maps take a piece of audio, usually a song, and cut it up into parts to divvy out to several artists for them to each animate and then they’re all stitched together to make a whole video. They can often have a theme or a script and are usually either fully animated or in PMV style (there are others too but these are the most common). PMV stands for Picture Music Video and instead of being animated, is a series of drawings, often with small motion such as panning, tweening, or camera movement

I’ve never been in a map before/I don’t know how to edit my images into my part so that they have movement. Can I still join?
• Absolutely! I’m happy to assist anyone with any questions they have and can show visual examples if that helps. I can also help with the editing process, whether that be assistance with your editing software or, if you’d prefer, sending the images to me and having me put them together when I edit together the final map. I really love editing, in fact of the 28 parts in the Pride map linked above, I fully edited 14 of them!

What is required for me to apply?
• I need to see at least one example of your art, preferably a piece with both characters and a background. If you have examples of splatoon art or previous animation/pmv experience even better! The only other requirement is that you have a discord so that you can join the server and make sure to keep up with deadlines and announcements.

How can I apply?
• There is a button at the bottom of the page that leads to the application form, please read through the whole carrd before applying!

When will you be deciding parts/how will I know if I’m accepted?
• I will wait until June 20th to start picking parts, applications will remain open until all parts are filled. If you’ve applied by the 20th you will receive an email by the 23rd letting you know the status of your application. If you apply to be a backup animator, you will receive an email within a week of applying letting you know the status of your application.

I noticed a lot of the parts are already taken and at the start of the map call there were some parts already done?
• Yup! So this map was first launched back in the summer of 2019, but due to covid and other complications, I put the map on hiatus until now. After such a long break, I thought it would be best to fully relaunch the project, but everyone who was originally accepted into the map who wanted to keep their parts still have them. What you saw in the map call was a teaser of some of the parts that have already been finished c;

Do I need to cut my own audio?
• Nope, I will be cutting the audio and I’ll have each part for download in the discord server

Can I draw my own Agent 8 for my part?
• Unfortunately no, please use the Agent 8 as seen on the reference sheet. I know agent 8 is a customizable character, but I’d like to keep their design the same across the map to help things flow better. Also, please use the same ink colors for both 8 and the sanitized octarians/octolings throughout the map! The reference sheets for Agent 8, the ink colors, and environment colors are posted below in the Resources tab

Can I collab with another artist for my part?
• Sure thing, though I’d prefer no more than 2 people to a part. There will be an option on your application to select if you’d like to collab!

How many parts can I have?
• Just one to start. If you finish your current part and there’s another still open that you’d like, you may have it (dm me on discord or communicate in the server first to double check)
